Hey guys, I just got a 98 warrior for cheap, come to find out the engine is locked up.the guy that sold it to me said it needs a starter. So far I have tested the starter, it’s fine.I took the spark plug out, put a wrench on the crank shaft bolt and it moved a little then got stuck…☹ went to check the oil filter for metal shavings and there wasn’t even a filter in there. So I plan on going through the engine and getting this turd back in action, but I’d like a little advice before I get too far into it.. first things first I’m buying a manual then plan on taking the head and jug off to see the condition of the top end most likely that’s smoked is there any recommendations on which parts to go with? Obviously I’d like to save a few bucks but I’d like to get quality parts. Also I’ve never been into the bottom end so once I have the jug off and can see the connecting rod how will I know if I will need to tear into that and again is there any good recommendations on a rebuild kit? There’s so many online idk what’s quality. I regret getting rid of my 01 it ran flawlessly now I’ve got my hands ful with a busted machine. Thank you In advance

Idk if anyone is following this but tonight I took the head and cylinder off of my warrior. to my surprise the cylinder has no scoring and there was a brand new piston in there.. 🤯 bottom end is still stuck, so I got it ready to pull the engine off of the frame and will be splitting the case apart to see what’s going on down there. I did notice some black sealant where the two cases meet so someone has been in there already. I’m hoping the crank is in good condition and there is something installed incorrectly. A wiseman once said wish in one hand, shit in the other and see which one fills first. Wish me luck 😉

I was very surprised to see new parts in The top end, but I have no faith in whoever put this machine back together.. there’s mix match bolts everywhere, everything is either way too tight or just barely back together. The flywheel for example came off with almost no effort spark plug was just sitting there, no oil filter, the head bolts were hand tight… I have a little time today so the engine is coming out right after I get the front sprocket off..🤬 an I’ll be splitting the case for inspection, hopefully it’s something easy. I don’t want to dump money into this thing but I want it running correctly.

Does anyone have an effective way to remove spray pant from plastics?? Whoever had this thing spraybombed it black and it looks like shit. I was thinking somedegreaser and a pressure washer but not sure if it’ll work.

I split the case today and the counter weight was wedged into the crankshaft assembly.. I spun the weight out of the way and the crank moves freely, no play in the connecting rod at all. However when making a rotation of the crank there is one spot where the connecting rod gets a little tight/stiff, The crank does have a little damage where the weight lodged itself into the crank shaft. I don’t think it’s a big deal but what do you guys think??? My service manual is coming this eeek so I will wait to reassemble, but I’m thinking this will be a runner. All the other gears seem to be in great shape

May have slipped on the pin, good used will be your best bang for the buck. If you know someone in a machine shop have them check it for true.

So I think I found the root of the problem.. the bearing that the counter weight slides through was seized. My plan for this is to replace all case bearings, clean the cases to get all the gunk out of the bottom, there is oil residue everywhere. Then put it all back together. The crank I believe is in ok condition, I used pb blaster where the tight spot was and is now smooth as silk. Just needs a thorough cleaning, everything is in spec. Hoping this will fix my little warrior I plan on flipping it, so far I have about 700 dollars into it. Does anyone have a solution to remove spray paint from plastics ?? The previous owner spray bombed the whole thing black and it looks like 💩

Ran into another issue, I put it all back together by the book. When I put the two cases back together and hand tighten the bolts the crank doesn’t move… as soon as I loosen the bolts a bit the crank spins freely.. this is concerning to me, does this mean my crank is the issue ?? Please help so I can get this thing out of the garage.

I’m not sure of any shims because there wasn’t any shims in the case when I split it, all bearings are set completely and spacers are all intact facing the right way. Someone has been in this engine before so maybe it’s missing a shim?? Where would the shims go? I’ve got a feeling the crank got bent when the balancer hit the crank, but before I go buy a crank I wanted to see what you guys think

I'm definitely not an expert on this engine (just bought one a couple of weeks ago). Just trying to think of anything that could be causing this and the only things I can come up with are what I mentioned above. When you say the crank doesn't spin, do you mean that it physically can't be made to spin because it's so tight or that it doesn't spin as freely as it does with the case loosened?

It seems too tight, I was able to put the bolt on the end of the crank and get it to move but it took way too much force to get it moving. With the two cases together no bolts in I was able to push on the connecting rod and the whole assembly would move freely.I am assuming the crank is bent and binding up somewhere. I just don’t want to get a crank for it to do the same thing.

I ended up buying a used oem crankshaft, made sure all my all my gears worked. Installed everything by my manual and BAM! The bottom end of my warrior is smooth as butter with a dry fit… next step is to rtv the two cases together install clutch gears with a new clutch and finally see if this thing will start :) I’m sure I will run into more issues with the ol girl, I’ll keep updating with progress on my project!

I have just about everything together, but have a question about the clutch rod that sticks out of the clutch cover. The rod came out in the rebuild process and I am not sure where it was to begin with . Is there a specific position for that rod or can someone help me with a picture of their clutch rod? The manual just says be sure to put the rod back to where is was.. which I don’t remember which position it was, thank you

Update to my warrior project, installed the engine in the frame, added oil and she cranks good now but no spark. I will be going through the harness and checking all grounds.. also another Issue is the bike will roll in all gears it acts like it’s in neutral, I’m not sure what this means ): does anyone else ?

Another update.. that bitch is running! Cleaned all ground connections, Ended up replacing the wire harness, start switch, battery wires and all the sudden I had spark and the start button worked🤯 put fuel in the tank and it started very quickly. Still got a project on my hands though.. fuel started pouring out of the zoom zoom carb and also when I put it in gear the bike didn’t move.. so I have a few more issues to work out has anyone experienced this??
