Starter clutch issues

In my 2003 raptor 660 my starter clutch doesn’t spin freely in either direction, and after taking the stator cover off I noticed a huge gash where the nut goes on to tighten it down and there was a bunch of metal shavings in the oil in the stator area should I replace the gear and clean it the metal shavings or what should I do need help I have pictures as well
