I bought a raptor 700 off my aunt it was a cousin who has passed on. I got to the place to get it no gas in it so I put fresh fuel it started up and reved fine. I bring it home and put a new plug jumped the battery it fired right up and everything was good. I got a new battery for it and now it won’t rev at all, sometimes a hair of throttle but nothing more. So I check everything battery is good, tps is good, fuel pump good, gets spark good, I checked the map on the power commander fuel controller and I’ve tried different curves on the dynatek ignition. I took the air filter and tube to the throttle body off everything clean, half took out the throttle body to clean in there. I forgot to tighten down the rubber seal to the motor and I go to start it and it was idling really high, but I can’t throttle my bike on the handle bar? so what is the problem? I’m very stumped I could use all the help I can get.

The parking brake engagement is capped off on the back and if it helps there is no reverse, the bike got race modded out.

i am not very experienced with the fuel injected machines but my guess is it is somewhere in the "race modding" every time i hear that term it means the harness has been cut to ribbons by someone watching youtube. my guess is the cdi is either bad or it thinks it is in park or reverse and is activating the rev limiter. i would also rule out the mass air flow and o2 sensors. try disconecting the battery for a half hour and see if it resets. try taking the battery out and jumping it like before. go back to when it ran and work from there i have seen the battery and charging system removed maybe he was planing a kick start or something. just curious did he split the cases and remove the reverse gear or just strip the ability to put it in reverse, seems like a strange thing to do.

I wouldn’t think the guy would rip the reverse gear out, but you never know. I had a shop look at it and they said change the wire harness if not that then try a cdi. My buddy has a stock 700 but it’s a 08 would the cdi work for my 06 to see if that’s the problem?

it looks to me like the 06-14 use the same cdi. just be prepared if it is a short in the hacked harness that took out the cdi you might get to buy 2 and a harness. i am kinda on the same page as the shop it will be very difficult to hunt down the cause until the harness is eliminated. but if you carefully go through it to rule out shorts and use the wiring diagram to figure out what was removed you can fix it, it will just take a lot of time and patience.

The harness looks like it was dragged down the road 20 miles. I’ll start with that would anyone have a good but cheap wire harness for my bike

there a a few used ones on ebay depending on your year but not really cheap. another thought is i assume it must have a crank or a cam positions sensor. i would check that if it is bad you could still have spark and the timing would be off. it still baffles me that people take an expensive machine and destroy it. it is one thing to bypass a brake sensor but why do they need to cut the harness all up. hope you got a good deal. if you dont see the one you need i would contact one of the dismantlers that have harnesses listed. they may have one and just not have it listed. i have generally had good luck with those guys. they make a living knowing what parts will interchange and have been a big help to me when restoring older machines

Yea I’ve hit up a couple people. I’ll have to check in to those sensors and when I dropped it off timing was off a tooth. Thanks for the help.
