What Is Tug Hill?
Tug Hill is a 2,100 square mile, rural and remote region of New York State located between Lake Ontario and the Adirondacks. The region is heavily forested and receives the heaviest snowfall in the eastern United States. With just over 100,000 people, about 50 people per square mile, one of Tug Hill's most notable characteristics is its relative lack of people.

This Satellite image illustrates the remoteness of the region.

Picture of what the trails are like....

TRAIL MAP Of Tug Hill. All the colored lines are trails. See Scale in lbottom left corner...Every 1 inch on the map = 2 miles just to give you an idea of how big this place is.

When is this ride happening?
Last Weekend in June. We will be getting/meeting there on the 27th late in the afternoon and will go riding on June 28 & 29.

The showers cost 25 cents to use, so don't forget the quarters!!

I don't think you can get insurance in Mass. If anyone in Mass. has insurance tell me where you got it.

These rules and regulations that are posted are very important, The Lewis County Sheriff dept. started a ATV Patrol last summer and they are out in force on Tug Hill.

Also make sure you plate is visible in the REAR of the machine, your tires are in good shape and that your lights work. Those are some of the other things that they have issued tickets for.

Here in New Jersey we are not issued plates when we register atvs. We are issued a registration number like on the side of a boat. Then we are required to obtain and apply the stickers to the side of our atvs. So what are our requirements when we go to Tug Hill?

Registrations from another state are valid. As long as your following YOUR states laws with the stickers and such. You just need insurance, if you don't already have it.

Dirtbike requirements; map

Don't forget to order your map from the Lewis County ATV Association. These are the folks who have helped make this riding Mecca possible in an otherwise ATV-hater state: See http://www.nysorva.org/members/lewismap.htm (should be able to buy it locally; proceeds go to help keep the trails open).

WRT lights etc, question asked by a poster with a YZf, yes you need lights to be "ATV-legal" in NYS. For all the facts on NY's ATV law, see the following
http://www.safeny.com/atv-tip.htm (Note that a dirtbike IS an ATV in NYS, unless it has a highway plate ala KTM types like me.)
