:s96: I hate when this happens! Why does it do that? I had a great time on my muddy track today and before I but the quad away I wanted to see the color of the oil. The friggin oil was up to the dipstick hole! And it smelled like gas big time. The 2 other times this happened was when the plug was fouled or the time the flywheel quit. I dont undestand why this would happen today. Mabe I let it idle too long for the warm up? Jetted to rich?

The only reason I can come up with for the gas being IN the oil is that some of the gas got under the piston before the power stroke?? If it did something like that be prepared for some engine work...

I'm not sure if this is the same guy that posted a similar question so I will post my responce as well. I have seen this problem alot lately!!!

Its due to the rings!!!! I am having the same problem with methanol. It fills the tank up to the top in about 20 minutes. I feel the problem is happening because the nikasil cylinders glaze over and are VERY smooth (like glass, but still has a great cross hatch pattern!) and causes the fuel to leak past. I have tried two sets of rings and it still leaks past so I am just going to run gas until I can figure out a way around this problem. As far as the gas leaking by in your case, I would say your ring end gap is out of spec causing the fuel to leak by. At least thats what is was on my bike and the bike is only 3 months old.

Thanks for the help guys. I m gonna check my rings soon. But I just remembered that the bike bog big time in 4th gear on the track. So bad I tought something was stuck in my rear axle so I stoped the bike. I checked and nuttin. So I fired it back up and quit practicing and went to the garage. I bet something in the carb must of stuck open (ex. float) for a few sec and that could of let the gas in. I'll do the oil change tomorow and see if it does it again.

I used to have the same problem when I would stand the quad up on its grab bar to wash it. Needless to say I dont do that anymore.

It happened to me once also, and I was told that the float was out of adjustment. I went in there and it looked okay, so far it hasnt happened since. I always turn my gas off if I am not riding.

Even with the floats out of adjustment, how does it get into the engine oil? Is it possible for so much too seep past the piston rings?

Side note: on properly adjusted floats, where should the fuel level be observed when using a clear tube? The clear tube method seems like a much easier way of checking for proper float levels.
