2001 Yamaha 350 warrior one way bearing

I have a question about my warrior it is knocking when attempting to start it i'm assuming its the one way starter bearing.
Now assuming it is that do i have to buy a new gear as well or can i just buy the bearing?

it looks like they sell it either way on ebay. you will need the flywheel puller as well. dont try to rig something you will ruin the flywheel. i would take it apart and see if the the gear was still good first

I have talked with my father who used to have a warrior when he was younger and he said as long as the gear isn't bad then i would only need the one way bearing. Thanks for your response!

Isn't the surface that the one way clutch runs on part of the gear? That surface could easily be worn and damaged. It should be smooth with no pitting indicating the hard surface has failed. Same with the inside of the flywheel part.
