11:1 Piston and Cam Combination Help
Currently the bike is stock except an aluminum DG slip on exhaust (stock header) and airbox mod with K&N filter. I am looking to upgrade to a standard bore 11:1 Wiseco piston but I am having trouble deciding on a cam to go with it.
The obvious option would be a Hotcam, I would probably get a Stage 1 as I only trail ride and don't want to sacrifice low end. But I am open to opinions on that as well. Maybe a Stage 2 would be a better option since I will be gaining some low end from the new piston anyway?
The other option is to go with a .430 grind Webcam, obviously more expensive and obviously better. They are $196 plus a core charge of $185 so I would have to front all the money till I got the new cam installed. I planned on upgrading valve springs either way but the Webcams are a huge upfront cost.
My main question is: What about valve clearance on the new piston? Can I just go with manufacturer recommended lash setting because the new piston will be "cut out" for valve clearance?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
