02 Grizzly 660 piston oil expander ring orientation

Well, I'm rebuilding the whole engine and the manual shows how to gap and clock the piston rings, but I can't find any information on the orientation of the expander ring (between oil rings). Should the end gap be pointing up or down and what clock position should it be? Or does it not matter? Any help would be appreciated.
