X-Factor Motorsport's Large Capacity Oil Tank

When Ray from X-Factor Motorsports contacted us via e-mail, curious if we were interested in trying out one of their large capacity aluminum oil tanks made for the Yamaha Raptor, we were very excited. We were in the market for one to review, so his e-mail couldn't have come at a better time. After drooling over the pictures attached with the e-mail, we replied back as quickly as possible with an enthusiastic "Sure!" Ray continued to tell us that after making great products for some of the largest companies in the ATV business for the past 12 years, X-Factor Motorsports has decided to go their own way and sell parts directly to the public. High quality, leading edge design is what they're known for, and we were assured that the Raptor oil tank would be no exception. We couldn't wait!

As expected, we received the oil tank promptly and it was packaged well. After ripping the box open, we were amazed at the quality of the oil tank right off the bat. The welds are flawless, the CNC machined cooling fins give it a trick look, and the ball burnished finish makes it look more like a distorted Super Bowl trophy. It couldn't look better cosmetically, and so far we were very impressed.

The benefit of adding a larger capacity oil tank is better cooling. More oil means better heat dissipation, and this tank holds an extra full quart of oil easily, compared to similar units which usually only hold a half-quart more than stock. The larger design does come with a downside though. There is a bit more work involved installing the tank due to its size and shape. We had to remove the headpipe, a few engine mount bolts, and then proceed to raise up the front of the motor with a car jack to fit it in place. We were told we shouldn't have to jack up the motor to get it in, but that's the only way we achieved success. Yes, it's not a fast 10-minute job, but we believe it is well worth it. They also claim that it is stronger than the stock unit, and we believe it. The rubber mounts, lower oil pipe, and cap are used from your original tank. Overall, installation was time consuming, but that is to be expected from such a large tank. The post-installation test ride showed no signs of unwanted rattles or leaks, as expected. Although we don't have any exact figures on the amount of temperature reduction yet, we have no doubt that it did help. Look for more temperature testing results in the coming months.

We are definitley happy with our new oil tank. It may take some time to install, and is a hair on the expensive side at $259.95, but if you are in the market for a large capacity oil tank and want one of the absolute best units out there, you should not hesitate to get one. We must also say that the customer support is great, and they are easily one of the best companies we have dealt with yet, which is always a plus! You can purchase the tank by visiting them on-line at X-FactorMotorsports.com, or by giving them a call at (909)471-1032. You can also contact Ray through e-mail at Rlarez@X-FactorMotorsports.com.
