Any rider that has ever "thrown" a chain knows just how much damage can incur. It can range anywhere from cosmetic scratches to large cracks or holes in the engine case itself. The result is usually high repair costs and even worse, long down times. Nearly all aftermarket options offer more "bling" than actual protection. Yes, we're talking about billet aluminum. While billet may look good, aluminum is a soft metal that may or may not hold up to the extreme force a thrown drive chain can produce. While much better than the stock setup, it most definitely is not the best option out there.
UPP now offers another alternative, which they feel will revolutionize the case saver. There are no sparkling good looks here, rather a state of the art, ultra-lightweight, energy-absorbing black material called Polyurethane. This UPP case saver completely conforms to the engine case. If your chain unfortunately derails from your sprockets, there is virtually a zero chance of a damaged engine case of any kind. They offer a lifetime warranty on this case saver, but we doubt you’ll ever need it. The design is simple, precise, and tough.
We realized an immediate downside when installing; it would not fit the 15-tooth sprocket we had on our Raptor. We quickly reverted back to the 14-tooth counterpart to continue. Once changed, the UPP case saver quickly and snugly fit into place. It will easily handle the 15-tooth sprocket with some grinding work (this is a common problem with case savers, as the 15-tooth sprocket is a larger diameter). As you can see, it’s true to its claim of being completely form fitting. It’s molded into the machine and attached with 2 bolts, completely enveloping every possible area around the sprocket like a glove. This is very important, as if an impact occurs, the force is spread out over a larger portion of the engine case to prevent damage.
This innovative case saver from UPP definitely provides greater protection for your machine, more than any other unit on the market to date in our opinion. It’s cosmetically good looking in its own way, and gives you peace of mind while ripping through the gears. They have taken a different path than the rest and came up with a winner in our eyes. At a price of $42.95, this should be one of the first aftermarket parts you purchase for your four-wheeled baby. Visit their site at www.UPPRacing.com or give them a call at 1-800-636-7659.
