Default methanol?

Other than needing the obvious of chrome molly rings, and a few titanium parts up in the head, are there any major mods that need to be done to run methane? or has anyone done this??

Do you mean methanol (alky), nitromethane, or methane (fart gas)?

If you have epoxy porting in your head, you need to coat it and cross your fingers. Your carbs and petcock have to be upgraded to run alky, it takes about 1.5x as much fuel as gas. You'll want to decrease your spark plug gap to .020-.022 for better burn but other than changing your oil and running gas through the carbs at the end of the day to purge them, no other changes needed.

Is it worth it? or don't you get enough power to make it worthwhile?

It is absolutely worth it, the motor runs cooler and makes more power, especially on the bottom end of the rpm range.

So, is there a place to buy a kit? or do you have to get all the parts sepertally? and what all is needed, even if your head isn't ceramic coated?

I don't know anything about converting a YFZ carb but know there are kits available for FCR carbs. Call Kenz Cycle Tech and ask him about converting the YFZ's FCR, he has a lot of YFZs on alky. If the YFZ's FCR carb is like the Raptor 39mm FCRs, it should be around $100 for the parts to convert one carb.

To increase fuel flow, replace the stock petcock with a Pingle, they are available directly from Pingle and many of the site sponsors are dealers for them. An upgraded petcock is around $100.

Once you convert your carb and upgrade your petcock, it's just a matter of remembering to purge the carb and change the oil at the end of the day. You don't need any special motor work or ceramic coatings.

I'll second that.. I had JB weld in my custom manifold and the alky turned it into JB jello. The only thing I'd like to add I think you are a bit low on the amount of alky needed.... I run alky and need 2.5 times as much to run right, not 1.5.
