Oil level in crank case?

Sorry if this is an old issue. My dealer usually does the maintanence on my 450 but I decided to stop throwing money away. So the book says .31L in the crank case. is there a way to check the crank case level and what are the problems if I overfill the crank case. Does the oil in the oil tank ever mix with the crank case oil?

Thanks for the help.

If you want you can add the full 1.96L to the oil tank and upon startup the oil will circulate through the motor and everything will go where it is suppose to.
There is no way to check the level in the crankcase. Just make sure the oil in the oil tank is in the operating range when you pull the dip stick.
If you want to add oil to the crankcase you will have to tip your quad on its side to get the oil in.
Personally I just add the full amount to the oil tank and start it up for 5 min. and everything works fine for me.

Ohhh, If you look in the service manual it says with filter change 2.06 QTS and it breaks it down for ya too,

Total amount
1.95 L (1.72 Imp qt, 2.06 US qt)
Quantity in oil tank
1.55 L (1.36 Imp qt, 1.64 US qt)
Quantity in crankcase
0.40 L (0.35 Imp qt, 0.42 US qt)

i put little over half in the crankcase and rest in the tank, but i have seen people put quart in the case and other in the tank, but i just follow the book

Couple Shee's with some strokin going on.
