how does reverse work,duh!

This is a discussion on how does reverse work,duh! within the Yamaha YFM660R Raptor (2001-2005) forums, part of the Performance /Technical category; this is my first experience with a raptor. its 01 660. can't figure out the reverse, maybe i'm a stupid a$$, or maybe it doesn't ...

Default how does reverse work,duh!

this is my first experience with a raptor. its 01 660. can't figure out the reverse, maybe i'm a stupid a$$, or maybe it doesn't even work. could anyone guide me to possible backward success?

put it in first, clucth it and turn knob on the right fender, then downshift one time. the 2001's didn't have the reverse limiter. most people, like myself when i had the 660, overrided it so they would be like the 2001's. hang on that thing will flyyy in reverse if working properly!

let me understand this properly, shift down one into first, then hit knob and shift down a second time?

yep that's right. you basically just need to be in first gear to get to reverse or even neutral. if you're starting from neutral, you'll shift down once for first, then turn knob and shift down once more. and when you want to get out of reverse, just upshift and you will be back into first. if your reverse knob or anything is broken, look into the dr. d reverse. awesome mod, cheap and your hands never leave the handlebars for reverse!

sweet,thx. hopefully i am just a dumba$$ and my reverse works. haven't had it very long. just tested a little yesterday. took it to 3rd and def nothin like the warrior i traded for it.

warroir = 350 cc, raptor = 660 cc you have Twice the motor of the warrior my buddy has a warrior he claims to be faster than anything onthe road, i let him put his money where his mouth was, and i toyd with him he would launch off like a mofo, and i would cruise lightly to 3rd, then go for it and ZZZZZZOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM :) raptors Are MEAN

i've got a 2001 rapter 660 and when i'm riding it will cut out and when it cuts out the reverse light will come on. how can i fix this?

You have to bypass the reverse limiter

Most of the people I know that have bypassed the rev limiter, remove the bypass. Going fast in reverse isn't fun.

Either you have an aftermarket CDI or you are over revving the engine. 2001 did not have a reverse limiter
