very pissed EFFIN BACKFIRE...WON'T IDLE IF CHOKE IS OFF!

This effer starts right up and runs/idles strong after warm up BUT the choke has to be half on? Also, when you hit the throttle it sounds like its gonna stall and sputters until you let off the throttle....I got awesome compression...timing is on...but if you turn the choke off it won't idle and dies...Help!!!!!!? Could it be the reverse rev limiter...my reverse light blinks when you rev it to much...Help!!!!???

Reverse light flashes when engine is reved for an extended period of time in neutral. Could als be the park brake switch/park brake rev limiter.

if it has to run with the choke on it is probably one of your float needles is stuck. crack the drains at the bottom of each carb and let each one flow at least a cup of fuel out of it. if it doesnt freely flow fuel you have a clogged needle and seat. take apart and clean very well.

I would check the idle jet and disconnect the reverse rev limiter

Also check the carb to intake manifold boots for loose mounting and or cracks.

Check the boots between the carbs and intake manifold. Make sure they are well seated, clamps are tight and there are no cracks or leaks. You can spray carb cleaner around them at idle to find leaks. If idle speed changes while spraying, you have proof.

take your carbs apart clean them, if that doesn't work get a rebuild kit. the kit fixed mine.
