Leaking Oil

The other night i went to a track, and after we got home, we noticed that there was oil on the trailer. I looked at my machine and noticed a bit of oil around the shifter. It has been in the garage for two days and no oil has accumulated on the ground. What do you guys think?

around the shifter.... check your drain screw.... or it could be the pipe... or the case leaking. Look at your pipe and then make sure your drain screw is tight. If its the case.. then either it needs a new gasket or it is damaged somewhere and it has a leak from the damage...

I had the same problem, i thought it was coming from the shifter but the oil was running down from the drive shaft, there is a seal there and a o-ring that i have to replace.....it just pops out with a flat head screw driver....

Yep this is pretty common. It is a countershaft seal. You remove the sprocket, and it is right there. It cost about 7 bucks at your local stealership.

would the countershaft seal cause it to leak only when running? I cleaned it up tonight and couldn't find anything leaking. Nothing has leaked in a few days. It hasn;t been driven since but i would like to get it fixed. Pretty sure it isn't the case or the line or the screw. So that leaves me with the shifter seal or the countershaft seal. I will check tomorrow and maybe find something. Any other suggestions? BTW what size is the sprocket nut?

Yes it is the countershaft seal. It shouldn't leak unless oil is flowing through there(motor running). My leak looked like it came from behind the sprocket, and run down on the bottom of my case all over my belly skid plate. Like I said, it is pretty common.

take the front sproket off and start it, you will see the oil start to seap through the bad seal.... just pry the old one out with a flathead and replace it...
