Default Engine#? Is it in the VIN?

I just got my raptor back after 4 months at a shady? bike shop. They were supposed to replace the bad gears in the tranny. I supplied the gears and gaskets. It's not fixed. My question is... Is the engine number the same as the serial number or any part of it? I question whether they swapped engines on me. It's just that something doesn't seem right about the bike now. He had two or three raptors torn down when mine was there.
Frame VIN:jy4amo1391c015032
Engine# m301e-020300
Any help would be appreciated.

In some states like California the engine number is on the pink slip ... I am not sure if that is true where you live

Where did U find the serialnumber on the engine? I only found one at the front of it: 3FY01, sounds more like the modelnumber of something.

I can check mine when I get the chance, if U don't get a reply before that.

Are you looking on the top back of the engine? kind of below the air box on top of the transmission? Just behind the starter, in the center from side to side? That's where I'm finding the above mentioned number. If it's supposed to match the last 6 of the vin, they swapped engines. Starting to sound bad!

Call this number, (800) 962-7926, Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM PST. It's Yamaha's number for ATV information. They should be able to help you figure it out. Given the VIN, they should be able to tell you the engine number that should be on your machine.

I can't even imagine my shop pulling that with me.. I'd pull one of the Big Gun pipes off the wall and beat him with it

The VIN is on the frame, left hand side, (front is to your left, back is to your right) it is located on the very bottom of the frame, almost right under the shift lever. (my frame is powder coated and i had to sand off that area to find mine) the engine number on the top is a referance number, not the technical VIN...hope this helps...

Thanks for your replies. So far I only have one telling me what I want to here, and he's in Australia! Thanks for the phone number! I want to burn this man so bad, legally. The Raptor still acts the same in 2nd gear, kind of like a worn out sprocket with a loose chain, it jumps and jerks. Was wondering if it could be a bent shifter fork? If I listed all the things that this man did wrong, or didn't do, it would take forever. Anyway, thanks guys.

I'll check my engine number against my VIN tonight (if I remember). But, I don't think any part of it has to match the VIN. I think each manufaturer numbers their engines differently. I'm pretty sure Honda's engine number is exactly the same as the VIN on certain machines. Anyway, use the phone number and you will find out for sure.
