Default Just picked up 1998 warrior yfm350! Need help w. mods

Picked up a warrior today for cheap I am trying to put together a list of mods to do to this to keep it still rideable on the trails yet get down! So far from what i have read I think im gonna go with stage 1 hot cam, Procom cdi box, rejet the carb, clutch kit, exhaust and a new chain and sprocket any suggestions other than this????? Whats the best clutch kit to go with as I know absouletly nothing in this departments and have no idea where to begin......I want good top speed as well as low end what sprocket combination would be good? Any other cams that are better than hot cam? Had read that some people where having issues with theres. WE DONT NEED MORE PROBLEMS ON TOP OF NO SPARK HAHAHAHA LOL These are broad things if you can help me with specifics or part# to create a good combination I would appreciate all the help. Thank you Zach Smith

First off... my recommendation is to do research before throwing money at parts. Plenty of information here, and even more at YFM350.COM - Home (you'll have to register there though).

Next your cheapest thing will be to open the bike up and let it breathe, such as putting on a new exhaust, and opening up the airbox. You will also have to Jet the carb for this. Dont bother with a jet kit, just learn how to read your plug and tune accordingly.

hot cam... dont bother. honestly I would not recommend a cam unless you are going to do more motor work, but web cams are better than hot cams.

Gearing, honestly you cant have the best of both worlds. If you want to have a higher top speed, you will need to run taller sprockets. This slows down acceleration. You can compensate this by doing motor work to build more power. If you want acceleration, you can run shorter sprockets, but this will limit your top end speed.

Clutch kits... once again they wont give you any extra power. And honestly the oem clutch is some of the best stuff available out there. There is an upgrade you can do where you put an extra steel plate in the clutch pack (need to search for this), which I would recommend doing if your clutch is not burnt out.

Cdi box... save your money. Once again it should yield more power, but honestly its seat of the pants. Put the money elsewhere.

In the end, my recommendation would be to do research. Its one thing to go at a machine and just toss money at it. But there are certain aspects that are worth improving, and others that are just a ripoff. Spend some time here and on the other forum reading and re-reading, and learning about the bike. You'll be glad you did in the long run.

I got a 96 warrior and I also want to do the mod thing but I am having a problem with the research. I like hearing from others trial and errors so i dont make the same mistake but anyway keep me posted if you find anything and I will send you info if i find anything.Hope to get these 350's done so we can smash the trails.

sounds good to me! those mods will make your quad much more fun. and they keep it reliable, and you keep your low end grunt for woods riding. wouldn't hurt to look up at the top of warrior page and find links to important topics. in there look for the oil cooler projects to keep your quad nice and cool!

If your are planning on keeping the Warrior motor in it I would get a Four Stroke Tech 400 kit. Easy bolt on power. Powerall makes one too I believe. I just went and put a TT500 dirt bike motor in mine way cheaper in the long run.
