Default Carb or Rings/Gaskets?

Ok so lately my 02 warrior has been smoking for a little bit upon a cold start. It will outrun my 96 every single time so the power is deffinatly still there. If it's above 50 outside the thing starts right up and doesn't need to warm up at all. 40 and below takes a choke to start but I don't even have to touch the throtle so it's not a hard start at all and takes little time to warm up. When I rev it after I start it the thing smokes a little but it soon goes away. My dad says its the carb that is doing it and he's probably right because he's been ridding for like double the amount I've even been alive. I just want to make sure its not the rings or the gaskets that need changed out. It also leaks a little gas from the overflow from the carb when it sits a while but if i turn the gas to off it doesn't leak anymore...

Could be your valve seals leaking oil into the cylinder and upon start up it burns it off. But I guess first what color is the smoke. Black is fuel and blueish color is oil.

As far as your leaking overflow, when you cut off the fuel shut off that stops the flow to the carb so it would stop the leak, but the leaking overflow is from either floats not adjusted properly or they are sticking. Since you say it leaks after sitting awhile I would say they are sticking. You can just tap the float bowl with a wrench or hammer and it usually frees it up.

If it just on start it is probably valve seals, nothing to worry about. Think of it as the pre-lube for your racer!

Start a baseline compression test now if you havn't and keep an eye on it.
