Carb leaking
Hey,
just bought a '97 Warrior. i've determined two problems. 1) the fuel on/off switch is leaking. so i guess i'll just replace that. 2) the carb is leaking out the drain tube. even while running the float doesn't appear to be closing off, so gas just runs out the drain tube.
i took the carb off, took the bowl off, sprayed everything with carb cleaner, wipe it out with a rage, and used a can of compressed air to blow out the little tubes. but it STILL LEAKS!
i don't mind trying again, but i'm not sure what to do differently this time. any suggestions on things to check or clean?
many thanks,
bigmac

Hey,
i kinda figured it was either that or a piece of trash was caught in the needle/seat. it's only a '97, so surely the needle/seat unit isn't worn out already, right??
how can i adjust the float level height?
thanks,
bigmac

You can buy a Carb Rebuild kit for $15 just to make sure that the carb is in tip top condition and the previous owner didnt screw anything up.

Might sound dumb, but is the drain bolt tight? When the float is stuck open gas level is high enough to flow out the overflow tube. It,s the tall skinny brass one that sticks up out of the bottom half float bowel. Gas comes out this drain tube if the float is stuck open or if the bolt is loose.

Hey,
well after a lot of work, i think the carb finally fixed itself. i took it apart and cleaned some build-up off the needle. but even then it still leaked. so i took it to the mechanic at the dealer, who checked it with a guage that measures how much leakage there is around the needle/seat. said there was a little but not enough that he would normally worry about it. he adjusted the float height a little for me also. put it all back together and hooked up the fuel line, and it still leaked. so i took it for a spin around the yard and . . . would ya believe it . . . it stopped leaking! maybe running gas through it after cleaning it and adjusting the float height finally made the needle seal correctly. whatever it was, i'm happy it fixed itself.
i've also got a new petcock ($22) ordered at the dealer cause mine leaks.
thanks for all the input!
happy trails,
bigmac
