Default 2001 Bear Tracker 250, sometimes have to pull with another ATV to start

My dad has a 2001 Bear Tracker 250. Sometimes when he attempts to start it, it will turn over fast but not start -it will not be firing. He can then pull it with another ATV with it in 3rd gear and it will start every time. After this, it will normally start up fine for quite some time before it happens again. The local Yamaha service personnel said to just continue driving until it just won't start, then bring it in and maybe they can find he problem. I have to believe that this has happened to someone else somewhere. Help!

Is the starter turning the engine over? or is it free spinning? one way starter clutch my be slipping. Also check to see if it has a decompression built into the head. im not very fmiliar with that model. if so it may be sticking. low compression will cause a fast crank that wont fire off.

Engine is turning over. Don't think it has decompression built in. Strange thing is that the problem is sporadic and it will normally start just fine. Seems electrical, but local Yamaha service didn't have an answer except to run it until it won't start at all, then bring it in.
