Default carburetor troubles on Big Bear 400

I had to replace the float bowl needle on my carb this weekend because it was causing gas to leak out of the side. Well the place didnt sell just the part, but they sold an entire rebuild kit. So I decided to replace the parts etc etc. Anyways it doesnt leak gas anymore, but now when I try to run the bike, it will not run unless I cover up the snorkel with my hand. When I restrict the flow, almost all the way, It revs fine all the way, but as soon as I take my hand away it dies. I have taken all the new parts out and put the old parts back in except for the needle that originally needed to be replaced. Can someone please help me figure out what to do to get my bike to run again.. Thanks

Did you use the kits new mixture screw and set it back right? It sounds like the mixture screw or the jets were mixed around.

Maybe you can help me with something. I bought a rebuild kit for an 06 big bear and the main nozzle fell out of the carb upon disassembly and I don't know which side the angled part of it, up or down. If you have a manual or know it would be greatly appreciated.
