big bear 400
my moms big bear will not shift into second gear!
you have t crank the hel out of it to shift
and when it is running for a while the carb boot that goes to the engine will pop off and the engine will like backfire.
i dont understand it?
need help soon!!

does the quad have fresh oil?
i would change the oil and use a non synthetic oil, like regular valvoline 10w30 ( in the white and blue bottle).
i dont remember if that quad has an automatic clutch, but if it does, adjust the automatic clutch "preload". my Recon has an auto clutch, and if you dont adjust the "preload" by turning a screw and locknut @ the specified maintenence intervels, it will do what you describe.
